- Every day, heading off to day care, shopping centers or the park,
- children are in danger of losing their lives. No parent, grandparent, or
- guardian would willing put a child at risk. Yet every time an infant or
- toddler rides in a motor vehicle without being restrained in a car seat, they
- are put at risk of injury and harm. The first law requiring car seats for
- children was passed in the State of Tennessee in 1978. By 1989, all 50
- states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico had enacted similar laws.
- At that time, car seat use was steadily increasing because, through education,
- the issue was brought to the attention of all citizens. But today usage rates
- have fallen stagnant, and it is time to put out the news once again.
- Project Safe Baby, initiated by Midas Muffler and Brake Shops, has
- published a brochure entitled "Tips For Safer Travel with Children" (in both
- English and Spanish) which contains the ABCs of car seats, information about
- their correct use, and descriptions about the various types that are
- available. To obtain your free copy, mail your request (specifying English or
- Spanish version) to Midas Project Safe Baby, P.O. Box 92292, Dept. AB,
- Libertyville, IL 60092.
